Atlanta-based full-service multifamily investment and management company Cortland Partners appointed Aaron Smith as vice president creative director. In his new position, Smith will handle all creative innovation, branding and digital marketing. The appointment is in keeping with the company’s strategy to continue investing in talent. Cortland is known for creating new positions not typically found in the multifamily industry, and this mirrors the firm’s unique approach to ownership and management of multifamily real estate.

In addition to Smith’s appointment, Cortland also hired entomologist Liam Tremblay and in-house director of fitness and wellness Karl Smith. The appointment of experts within such specific categories as bug extermination and personal health falls in line with the company’s plan to maintain resident satisfaction as a primary objective. The additions also reflect Cortland’s shift toward the internal sourcing of key functions, such as interior design, construction management, material procurement, property management, pest control and fitness programming.

Our commitment to landing the best of the best often means stepping outside of the real estate realm to acquire talent. Hiring a creative director of Aaron’s caliber, in addition to nontraditional hires like Liam and Karl, is a testament to that philosophy,” Steven DeFrancis, CEO of Cortland Partners, said in prepared remarks.
