Container-Based Component Added to Nashville Mixed-Use Development

Nashville, Tenn.—SG Blocks, a designer of container-based structures, has unveiled plans for a 21-unit structure for oneC1TY, a mixed-use development currently under construction in Nashville. The new structure will be mostly for retail tenants, and be the first of their kind ever used in Nashville.

New York-based SG Blocks will make the pre-fabricated containers and deliver them to the site this fall, and they will be in place for about five years, until oneC1TY’s permanent buildings are completed. SG Blocks is a specialist in using cargo shipping containers for sustainable construction. According to the company, it offers a product that exceeds many standard building code requirements, and also supports greener construction.

When oneC1TY is finished, it will comprise more than 1 million square feet of research/office, retail and green spaces. There will be a residential component as well.

oneC1TY is essentially a new neighborhood being created on the West Side of Nashville, a multi-building property that will cater to the healthcare, life sciences and technology sectors. The goal of the new development will be to create a space for those industries to connect with higher education, research and development in a collaborative campus near Nashville’s urban core, according to the developers.

The project has received all necessary entitlements. Site design, infrastructure, transportation and building design will be planned and constructed with the goal of achieving LEED Neighborhood Development certification.
