Construction Underway on San Antonio Apartments
SC Bodner’s project will transform an obsolete site along San Antonio’s popular Riverwalk into an upscale rental property complete with 220 luxury apartments.
Construction has begun on 120 Ninth Street Apartments, SC Bodner Company’s new development in San Antonio.
SC Bodner Company’s project is set to transform an obsolete land site along San Antonio’s popular Riverwalk into an upscale rental property complete with 220 luxury apartments and well-appointed amenities.
“The project is located on the Riverwalk at Ninth Street & Avenue B and has nearly 500 feet of frontage directly on the Riverwalk,” Mike Klein, SC Bodner Company’s director of development, told MHN. “The project includes 96 percent of units featuring outdoor living space; five units are two-story penthouse units with sky-decks; there are two-river taxi stops on the property; 61 units overlook the Riverwalk; and there is both an upper and lower Riverwalk along the property frontage.”
Located on 2.2 acres where the former Turner Club bowling alley once stood, Cadence McShane Construction Company is doing the construction of the building and broke ground in late January. It will deliver the assignment in phases, with the first phase slated for completion in September 2018.
“The property appeals to a growing number of people that want to live downtown and enjoy an urban lifestyle but who are also looking for luxury living and amenities,” Srinath Pai Kasturi, Cadence McShane’s VP and general manager, told MHN. “The City of San Antonio has done a lot of great work to improve the Riverwalk, and as a result it has become a desirable location for many property types including restaurants, retail and housing.”
The five-story wood frame building will incorporate four studios, 165 one-bedroom and 40 two-bedroom apartments, and five two-story penthouse suites on the upper level. Each unit will offer spacious open floorplans, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, vinyl plank flooring and a private outdoor balcony or patio.
The community features a fully equipped fitness center, on-site management and central courtyard with a bocce ball court, fire pit, grilling stations and a zero-edge swimming pool overlooking the Riverwalk.
“The development fits well with the company’s live-work-play philosophy as well as creating a unique living experience through its location, amenities and finishes,” Klein said.
The project’s location is along the Museum Reach, a 1.3-mile stretch of new walkways, landscaping, parks and public art along the San Antonio River. It’s close by the San Antonio Museum of Art, The Pearl, VFW Post 76 and the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
“This project will help meet the demand of those seeking to be part of the urban renaissance featuring a lifestyle with low maintenance, easy access to restaurants, entertainment and events,” Klein said. “Urban living thrives with pedestrian energy and a sense of community not found elsewhere.”
Cadence McShane will also complete an adjacent five-story precast parking garage accommodating 350 vehicles as well as all site work for the project such as paving, exterior lighting and landscaping.
“This particular area of the Riverwalk has seen a great deal of recent interest and activity. As investment and development increases, the popular Pearl District has expanded closer to the Riverwalk, and vice versa,” Kasturi said. “I believe the 120 Ninth Street Apartments will further accelerate activity in the surrounding area and prompt greater demand from renters who are looking to live in this vibrant urban setting.”
