Atlanta–Gables Residential recently held its ninth annual Gables Day community service events, which took place over two weeks throughout the company’s 14 operating regions. The importance of community service inspires National Gables Day during which each corporate and onsite office is closed for the day and all associates, from company executives to onsite associates, work together on a community service project.  This year’s activities, which moved from the fall to spring in hopes of experiencing better weather and project availability, continue a tradition that supports its corporate mission of “Taking Care of the Way People Live.” Gables Residential annually contributes more than $100,000 and additional vendor donations to the communities it serves. Additionally, all of the company’s associates—more than 1,500—participated in day-long projects in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Lakeland (Fla.), Memphis, Nashville, New York, Orlando, south Florida, southern California, Virginia Beach and Washington, D.C.  Regional projects included cleaning up, renovating and beautifying recreational areas; conducting local food drives that collected more than 14,000 pounds of food; serving in community kitchens; upgrading and maintaining schools and community centers; assisting senior citizens; working with children’s hospitals and more.   “One of our core values is delivering enduring contributions to our local communities,” says David Fitch, CEO, Gables Residential. “The importance of community service to our corporate mission has been the foundation of Gables Day since its inception. Gables Day helps us give back to the communities we serve and operate in, and creates deep connections between the company and our neighborhoods. It is important to our Gables’ associates and something we look forward to all year.”  Gables Residential is a privately held REIT owned by a closed-end fund managed by a joint venture between ING Clarion and Lehman Brothers.  Gables Residential owns, develops and manages multifamily communities and mixed-use developments as well as running third-party management operations. Gables Residential has nearly 35,000 apartment homes under management, including a corporate-owned portfolio of 64 communities comprising more than 16,000 apartment homes. An additional eight communities are under construction, comprising 2,000 apartment homes.
