Community for Homeless Proposed in Albuquerque
A local business alliance plans to construct a campus-style property west of the city with space for approximately 170 people.

The Greater Albuquerque Business Alliance has put plans forward for a campus-style community to target the city’s homeless problem, according to the Albuquerque Journal. The development, part of the group’s Homeless Vision 2018, would be able to accommodate approximately 170 people through a mix of dorms and small homes.
The potential development site, a 7.8-acre parcel located immediately south of the Bernalillo County Animal Care and Resource Center, is positioned 2 miles north of Joy Junction’s newly opened 52-unit community for the homeless. The location is approximately 1 mile from one of the county’s Rail Runner stations, providing direct access into Albuquerque’s city center.
The campus’ plans call for separate men’s and women’s dormitories, in addition to 25 small homes spread across the site. The community will include an amenity building with a cafeteria or food court, a fitness center, recreational space and a health care center.
The business alliance intends to provide services on a short-term basis to homeless people without mental health or substance abuse issues.
