Common, CityPads Break Ground on Chicago’s Largest Co-Living Home

After launching its first two coliving homes in Seattle this summer, Common—in a joint venture with CityPads—has started construction on Chicago’s largest co-living home. Dubbed Common Addams, the property marks the partnerships’ third co-living project together in Chicago, as well as Common’s fourth building in the city. 

Common Addams will comprise 223 beds across four stories, as well as more than 5,000 square feet of shared amenity space. Rent prices will start at $975, which will include the apartments being furnished, all utilities, Wi-Fi, weekly common area cleanings, shared supplies and access to amenities. Residents will have access to common spaces including:

• gym
• movie room
• member lounges
• wet bar
• communal dining areas
• furnished roof deck 
• bike storage
• package storage
• 59 parking spaces
• views of Chicago skyline

Common Addams is located in both Enterprise and Opportunity zones, with close proximity to Addams/Medill Park, which will be opening a new recreation center in 2019 with basketball courts, a track, a new outdoor sports field and trails across the street. The community is scheduled for completion by 2020. 

“I’m seeing first-hand just how fast co-living is growing in Chicago and across the country,” Sandy Albert, senior director of Real Estate at Common, told Multi-Housing News. “It’s clear to me that people are craving the mobility and flexibility that co-living brings. People in Chicago and across the country are renting for longer and later into their lives and forgoing or delaying things like getting married, home ownership and having children.”
