Decatur, Ga.—The real estate firm Carter has opened the first phase of its new apartment development, Place on Ponce, for leasing. The phase includes 28 units and is in downtown Decatur, on the corner of W. Ponce de Leon Ave. and Ponce de Leon Pl.
Phase I is scheduled for delivery in November, with the remainder to be completed in the summer of 2015. Eventually, according to Carter, the property will include a total of 234 units in a two-building, five-story community.
The Place on Ponce will feature one-, two- and three-bedroom units and 10,000 square feet of street-level retail space. Amenities will include a 4,000 square-foot resident clubroom, a 1,700 square-foot fitness center, a resort-style pool, dog spa, bike repair station and two outdoor courtyards.
The property is two blocks from Decatur’s downtown square, and, according to Carter, it’s the first development of its kind in the area in more than a decade. The development is also walking distance from the Decatur Marta station (greater Atlanta’s transit system), and has a Walk Score of 91 out of 100, making it a “walker’s paradise,” meaning daily errands don’t require a car, says the Walk Score organization.
Decatur is a close-in suburb of Atlanta that’s seen new development and an increase in population in recent decades, which represents a revival from the 1960s and ’70s, when a lot people moved away.
