Boston Affordable Housing Project to Add 135 Units

Following the construction of 285 affordable units during the past eight years at The Anne M. Lynch Homes at Old Colony in South Boston, Beacon Communities and the Boston Housing Authority have broken ground on the third phase of redevelopment at one of the oldest federal public housing properties in the country. The Architectural Team Inc. is the designer of the 135-unit upcoming property.
The developer will first demolish four existing structures and then begin work on two new, four-story buildings at 20 Burke St. and 229 E. Eighth St. The first asset will span across 107,000 square feet and encompass 88 units, while the second one will include 47 apartments across 49,000 square feet.
Both buildings are set to feature landscaped central courtyards and private patio space in select units. Plans call for a mix of one- to four-bedroom apartments for each structure, which will be integrated into the pedestrian-friendly streetscapes and open space created in the first and second phases of the redevelopment.
The next stage of the decade-long transformation is a planned 166-unit affordable housing project. According to Yardi Matrix data, these last two phases of construction are set to encompass four new buildings.
