Architect for Pearl Midtown 29 Revealed
Architecture and design firm Stantec has revealed its design for the luxury mixed-use development in Midtown Miami.
Miami—Pearl Midtown 29, the upscale mixed-use residential project from MORGAN, will be designed by Miami architecture and design firm Stantec, the company announced. The 309-unit project in Midtown Miami will feature 12,000 square feet of ground-level retail, five floors of parking and outdoor amenities.
Construction on Pearl Midtown 29 has begun and is expected to be completed in January 2018. The developer initially acquired the 2-acre site for $19.1 million in 2015.
For the building’s design, Stantec has planned a series of interlocking frames with ribbons of floor-to-ceiling glass throughout.
“The nearly all-glass facade provides a great opportunity for fantastic views facing Biscayne Bay,” Haven Peaden, associate principal at Stantec, told MHN. “The pronounced super-grid, which frames and modulates Pearl Midtown 29, definitely gives the project a unique look. The east elevation, facing NE 2nd Avenue, pushes through the grid, adding another layer of interest.”
The project is also expected to achieve LEED Silver certification. The building will have high-efficiency AC units and “good-quality glazing to keep energy consumption low and tenants comfortable,” Peaden explained. “The low energy light fixtures contribute as well…We also made the design decision to limit glazing facing west by orienting views south, north and east. Western sun is most negatively impactful on a building’s energy consumption.”
“Midtown is one of Miami’s most exciting neighborhoods, and we incorporated that vibrancy and energy into the architecture and design of the building,” stated architect Jon Cardello, senior principal at Stantec.
Pearl Midtown 29 is located at 180 NE 1st St., at the intersection of NE 29th Street and NE 2nd Avenue, occupying most of the city block. The 20-story development will include a seventh floor amenity deck with a resort-style swimming pool and spa, an outdoor bar, grilling stations, fire pit and rooftop terrace. Luxury units will come in studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans.
The community is also situated at the entrance of The Shops at Midtown, a 645,000-square-foot retail center.
In addition to Pearl Midtown 29, Stantec is working on other Florida projects, including the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Miami Beach; Jade Signature in Sunny Isles; Luma at Miami Worldcenter; Soltair Residences in Brickell; and 330 Third St. in Downtown St. Petersburg.
