Affordable Seniors Housing Opens in Heber City, Utah
The grand opening of Prestige Senior Living Center, a 23-unit affordable senior housing community in Heber City, Utah, took place earlier this month.

Heber City, Utah—The grand opening of Prestige Senior Living Center, a 23-unit affordable seniors housing community in Heber City, Utah, took place earlier this month.
The announcement of the grand opening was made by Irvine, Calif.-based WNC, a national investor in real estate and community renewal initiatives, which provided $2.3 million in low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) equity to construct the community. The project was co-developed by the Wasatch County Housing Authority and Mountainlands Community Housing Trust. Prestige Senior Living Center was built to serve those 62 and older with incomes between 25 and 49 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Gary McDonald, executive director of Wasatch County Housing Authority, and David Phillips, mayor of Heber City, among others, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“After working on Prestige Senior Living Center for the past four years, I am excited that we finally have a quality independent living facility for lower-income seniors and disabled adults,” McDonald said. “The completion of this project helps satisfy a long-standing need in our community. The success of this venture reflects the partnering efforts of multiple entities, all working towards a common and worthy goal.”
Added Phillips: “Prestige Senior Living Center is a welcomed addition to Heber City. Among the most challenging decisions that many seniors face include the issues of senior housing—when to change their living situation and which senior housing option to choose. Senior housing offers safety and security, activities of daily living, and socialization. We hope our seniors enjoy living there.”
Included in the development are 21 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments, all of which feature washer and dryers, dishwashers, garbage disposals and central air conditioning. Monthly rental rates extend from $533 to $739 and include basic utilities.
Among the common area amenities of Prestige Senior Living Center is a community game room.
“Prestige Senior Living Center was constructed in a prime location that joins residents with the new Wasatch County Library and local senior center, providing another excellent example of the important role LIHTC plays in meeting the growing need for quality affordable housing throughout the nation,” says Will Cooper, Jr., president and chief executive offer of WNC.
In addition to the WNC-provided LIHTC equity, The Olene Walker Housing Loan Fund—administered by the State of Utah—granted the $380,000 low-interest construction and permanent loan. Mountainlands Association of Governments assisted with the purchase of the land through a $150,000 Community Development Block Grant.
