Washington, D.C..—The U Street Corridor is receiving new market-rate and affordable housing units.
The JBG Companies held a groundbreaking ceremony today for 13|U, a mixed-use development including 15,000 square feet of street-level retail.
The ceremony, which took place onsite at 1300 U Street NW, included comments from JBG representatives, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Councilmember Brianne Nadeau. The unveiling of a 264-foot mural, created by the summer students of Mazi Mutafa, executive director of D.C.-based nonprofit Words Beats & Life, took place during the groundbreaking as well.
The 13|U development, situated near the U Street/Cardozo Metro station, will be an eight-story building designed with the city’s iconic apartment-building architecture in mind.
