Whether piping in tunes to keep a party going in the common room or providing a true theater experience in your media room, having a built-in speaker system is a must for exciting amenity spaces. Wall-mounted speakers have been replaced with in-wall speakers in an effort to keep spaces de-cluttered. But with today’s minimalist design trends, white speakers inserted into a white wall or ceiling create just enough visual disruption to prove distracting. What if your speakers could be completely invisible?
Innovative British loudspeaker producer Amina Technologies does just that. Their flat speakers are typically installed below a final skim coat of finishing plaster or drywall, though installation behind wood paneling is also an option.
The clever solution starts with the speaker’s shape. While the piston-based cone speaker is what typically comes to mind when considering  a sound source, Amina Technologies employs the millennia-old principle of the vibrating or resonant surface—i.e. what we find in natural musical instruments like the violin. Amina replaces the strings of a violin with a powerful, full-range, electronically driven tuning fork that they dub the “exciter.” The shaped body of an instrument is replaced with light-weight composite flat panels. This allows for a low profile, highly effective vibrational surface loudspeaker.
The end result is the perfect solution for maintaining high-design and high-fidelity in an amenity space. Amina loudspeakers are designed to replace a cutaway section of plasterboard. After installation, the section is either painted or wallpapered to taste. Be sure to visit Amina online for more information.
