The clever solution starts with the speaker’s shape. While the piston-based cone speaker is what typically comes to mind when considering  a sound source, Amina Technologies employs the millennia-old principle of the vibrating or resonant surface—i.e. what we find in natural musical instruments like the violin. Amina replaces the strings of a violin with a powerful, full-range, electronically driven tuning fork that they dub the “exciter.” The shaped body of an instrument is replaced with light-weight composite flat panels. This allows for a low profile, highly effective vibrational surface loudspeaker.
