80-Unit Affordable Housing Opens in FL

Oakland Preserve is green-certified housing in Oakland Park, Fla., representing the third collaboration between Pinnacle Housing Group and Building Better Communities.

Building Better Communities Inc. and Pinnacle Housing Group LLC have opened Oakland Preserve, an affordable housing community situated in Broward County, halfway between Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach.

The 80-unit community is located at 3600 NE 2nd Ave., in Oakland Park, Fla., in close proximity to Oakland Park Festival Center and Giusti Heart Parkours jogging park. Each building is smoke-free, while the property is green certified. Sustainable principles are reflected in the architectural design, the materials and appliances.

“With affordable housing at a premium in South Florida, we are proud to offer rental rates at Oakland Preserve that are substantially lower than market rate,” said Michael Long, president of the board of Building Better Communities, in prepared remarks.

Community-friendly features

Oakland Preserve amenities include:

  • fitness center
  • playground
  • indoor children’s play area
  • cyber lounge
  • on-site maintenance
  • 24-hour property management

Spacious shared common areas, offering a shaded patio, grill and ample recreational space that overlooks a community lake, facilitate resident interaction.

“This is the third successful collaboration between Pinnacle Housing Group and Building Better Communities. In all three developments, we worked together to provide housing indistinguishable from market-rate housing,” said Timothy Wheat, regional vice president of Pinnacle Housing Group, in a prepared statement.

Integrating sustainable features is one of many affordable housing trends to watch in 2017, according to John Williams of Avanath Capital Management, along with increasing demand for larger family units and the growing preference for suburban areas.
