660-Bed South Carolina Student Housing Community Breaks Ground

Columbia, S.C.—Peak Campus Development has started construction on a 218-unit, 660-bed student housing property in Columbia, S.C. The development is about two blocks from the University of South Carolina (USC) main campus and adjacent to Columbia’s Five Points district, a longstanding commercial and retail area in the South Carolina capital.

The project offers 15 unit plans, including lofts, in a five-story residential building with two courtyards. All units will come fully furnished with private bathrooms in every bedroom, walk-in closets, full-sized washers and dryers, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops. Most units will also include their own balcony.

Common amenities will include a two-level multi-purpose room, business center and a fitness center with rock climbing wall, along with yoga and spinning studios. The courtyards will contain a resort-style pool, hot tub, fire pit, bocce ball and lounge areas. The project also provides structured parking and indoor/outdoor bike storage.

USC currently has an enrollment of more than 47,000 students, making it among the larger public university systems in the country. Almost 33,000 of those students are on the main Columbia campus, which the new Peak Campus property will serve.

The project is slated to open in August 2016, ahead of the 2016-17 USC academic year. Atlanta-based Peak Campus has developed more than 14,000 student housing beds and currently oversees 74 properties totaling over 38,000 beds for investors, making it one of the largest private student housing operators in the United States.
