$60M Project Near Rutgers Campus Gets Green Light
The development would add 150 studios in New Brunswick.
Premier Properties has received preliminary and final site plan approval for the $60 million development of Union Square Apartments, a 150-unit community in New Brunswick, N.J., near the campus of Rutgers University. The project involves the redevelopment of the properties at 40, 46 and 50 Union St.
The property will be entirely comprised of studio apartments. Unit interiors are expected to feature stainless-steel appliances, quartz counter tops and designer light fixtures. Community amenities are designed to encompass a 1,300-square-foot fitness room and several gaming areas and lounges as well as laundry facilities on each floor. All common areas are intended to be powered by rooftop solar panels. The project will also include 67 parking spaces, 12 of which will be EV charging stations.
The building’s height will distinguish it from its environment as constructions in the area are generally limited at 35 feet, but Union Square Apartments will rise 84.3 feet. The site is off Memorial Parkway, which provides connectivity with interstates 95 and 287. The property is also in a highly walkable area, filled with retail and dining options.
Mitchell Broder, developer for Premier Properties, reflected in prepared remarks on the impact the company has had on the area, having redeveloped seven properties in the vicinity over the past 25 years.
