Wood Partners has broken ground on Alta Fontana, a 344-unit multifamily development in Fontana, Calif., in San Bernardino County. Completion is expected in the summer of 2025.

Project plans show that Alta Fontana will comprise one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans across two four-story buildings, along with 1,500 square feet of retail space. Ranging from 726 to 1,388 square feet, apartments will feature wood-style flooring, in-unit washers and dryers and granite countertops.

Common-area amenities, spread across five distinct courtyards, are slated to include a swimming pool, outdoor cooking stations and a children’s play area. Interior facilities will incorporate a fitness center, business center and clubroom.

Located at 14817 Foothill Blvd., the 8.8-acre site is close to interstates 10 and 15, roughly 15 miles west of San Bernardino and less than 10 miles from the Ontario International Airport. The immediate area has several retail and dining options. Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center is some 5 miles away.

A recent Yardi Matrix report shows that multifamily development in the Inland Empire has slowed down significantly, with only 641 units being delivered in the region in 2022. There were however 4,717 units under construction as of January and more than 30,000 in the planning stages, the majority targeting the upscale lifestyle segment.
