Carr Cos. has broken ground on Muse, a 73-unit luxury condo development south of the nation’s capital in Alexandria, Va., that is slated to deliver in late 2021. The art-themed property along the Potomac River will launch sales in September, with prices starting in the $800,000s.

The project is located at 1199 N. Fairfax St. in the historic Old Town North neighborhood, and will consist of two buildings connected by an enclosed bridge. The property’s main tower, housing the condos and amenities, will have a 24-hour staffed reception lobby that opens to a landscaped outdoor space called the Arts Walk. Amenities will include a penthouse lounge with an outdoor terrace and an indoor-outdoor fitness center on the top floor.

Units will range in size from 920 to 2,800 square feet, with a number of homes featuring dens, balconies and terraces. The second, smaller building will house Alexandria-based nonprofit The Art League in the first floor, with a trio of two-story loft residences taking up the second and third floors. Both buildings of the SK&I Architecture-designed property will have glass, brick and panel facades. Muse’s interiors are designed by Akseizer Design Group (ADG).

New neighbors

Built on the former MetroStage theater, the site is located 5 miles from downtown Washington, D.C., a half mile from the George Washington Memorial Parkway, and less than a mile from the Braddock Road station of the Washington Metro system. Muse is also just south of the National Landing zone, where Virginia Tech is working on a new Innovation Campus. National Landing is also  home to Amazon’s planned second headquarters campus in Arlington, Va., and a proposed pair of residential towers with 811 units from JBG SMITH.

The Carr family of companies, which includes privately held REIT Carr Properties, focuses on developing, owning and investing in residential and commercial properties in Washington, D.C., and Boston. Muse forms part of a $200 million pipeline of new construction projects for the property firm.
