U-Haul Opens Southern Mississippi Facility

The Biloxi self storage property is the company’s 14th in the state.

U-Haul Self Storage has opened U-Haul Moving & Storage of Biloxi, a 344-unit facility in Biloxi, Miss. The company acquired the property from a private buyer in September, according to Yardi Matrix information. The facility came online in August.

The property in Biloxi is the company’s 14th self storage property in Mississippi, but the first one that U-Haul owns as well as operates.

The Biloxi facility consists of a single building covering a 4.6-acre site. Amenities at the 54,00-square-foot facility include climate-controlled units, an on-site manager, a retail showroom and moving suppliers. The ownership plans to introduce customer access to moving trucks, trailers and towing devices. Units range in size between 25 and 200 square feet.

The self storage facility is at 12011 Old Highway 67, some 2 miles from Interstate 10 and Mississippi Highway 15. The property is one of seven available within a 3-mile radius, offering residents 18.8 square feet per capita. The Gulfport-Biloxi market had two planned and one prospective self storage facilities at the end of October, according to the same data provider, with no projects under construction.

Earlier this month, U-Haul acquired a five-property, 790-unit self storage portfolio in northern Minnesota. Four of the five properties will be operated remotely.Â
