Trammell Crow Residential, the multifamily development platform of Crow Holdings, has broken ground on its latest Alexan-branded apartment community. The 340-unit, luxury multifamily property, Alexan Chelmsford, will be built at 255 Princeton Street in Chelmsford, Mass. Trammell will serve as both developer and general contractor on the development. Completion of construction is slated for the fourth quarter of 2025.

Alexan Chelmsford will involve a redevelopment of the former University of Massachusetts West Campus into a 32-acre residential community. The four-story, elevator-serviced buildings will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments as well as studio units. Features and finishes of apartments will include wood-style flooring, walk-in closets, in-unit washers and dryers and stainless-steel appliances. Among the common-area amenities will be a resident clubhouse featuring a gourmet kitchen and gaming room.

The property will also offer three-bedroom townhouse residences featuring integrated garages and premium finishes.

Northeastern portfolio expands

The community is situated next to six acres-plus of deed-restricted wetlands. The Route 3 Tech Corridor, Route 128 Corridor, the Interstate 93 North Corridor and Downtown Boston are all easily accessible from the property.

Alexan Waltham, a 210-unit multifamily development from Trammell, is also currently under construction in Waltham, Mass., and is expected to be complete in summer 2025. Nearby Alexan Peabody, located in Peabody, Mass., is expected to be complete in late 2025.

Alexan Chelmsford will bring Trammell’s apartments in the northeast U.S. to nearly 2,000.
