By Anuradha Kher, Online News EditorOrlando, Fla.–The New American Home, a ‘real-world’ laboratory demonstrating concepts, materials, designs and construction techniques that can be replicated, celebrated its 25th anniversary at the International Builders’ Show this year.People attending the show received a tour of the New American Home, a 6,725-sq.-ft, plantation-style house located in the prestigious Waters Edge subdivision, a gated, 11-lot development in a private golf and country club community along the banks of Orlando’s Lake Nona. The latest in interior design, green features, energy efficiency and cutting-edge technology is on display this year at the New American Home. Some of the green elements featured in the home are:The front hall cupola that acts as a solar chimney, drawing hot air up and out as it rises naturally to the highest point in the home, augmenting the cooling process and decreasing demand on the mechanical cooling systems. A sealed, fully-conditioned attic that eliminates the intrusion of moisture-laden air and unwanted rust and mold and tempers the space, which means a cooler attic and better operating efficiencies of air handling equipment and ductwork placed within. And native landscaping, including live oaks, magnolia and dwarf hollies, which need less extra water and irrigation and their placement helps shade the home from the hot sun.Since its inception in 1984, the New American Home has been both a show house and a for-sale product.
