Sacramento, Calif.—Sacramento|Yolo Mutual Housing Association recently changed its name to Mutual Housing California. Nonprofit executives have been talking to agencies and organizations in other, smaller counties about bringing its affordable housing programs and services to other areas.
The focus on building resident leaders, one of the hallmarks of the nonprofit, will remain the same.
Known for its green building practices, Mutual Housing also will continue to develop communities with less of an impact on the environment.
Resident members had to approve the name change. The nonprofit also received legal approval to do so.
Based in Sacramento, Calif., Mutual Housing currently is developing properties in Davis and Woodland as well as Sacramento.
Founded in 1988, Mutual Housing California develops and operates well-designed rental housing for modest-income households. The communities have 2,750 residents.
