Chicago—The recent Related Midwest & Lend Lease Annual Charity Golf Classic raised more than $300,000, which will go directly to two charitable beneficiaries: SOS Children’s Villages, Illinois, and The Children’s Heart Foundation.
This was the 10th annual outing hosted by Related Midwest and Lend Lease, which takes place each year at Harborside International Golf Course and has raised more than $1.8 million for various children’s charities since its inaugural year. The event regularly draws participants from the real estate and construction industries, and this year was also attended by special guest Micah Materre, news anchor for WGN-TV.
The outing regularly draws more than 300 participants including contractors and developers as well as architects, banks and lenders, mortgage companies, attorneys and others.
Each year Related Midwest and Lend Lease choose two charitable organizations as the beneficiaries of the outing, and proceeds are split equally between them. This year’s beneficiaries, as with past year’s outings, are both child-focused. SOS Children’s Villages, Illinois, provides a viable alternative to traditional foster care, while The Children’s Heart Foundation funds the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects.
A highlight of the golf outing each year, and a significant source of funds raised, is a live and silent auction during the dinner portion of the event. Highlights of this year’s auction included a “stay and play” golf package at TaylorMade’s research and manufacturing facility in California; a hockey stick signed by the 2012-2013 Stanley Cup-winning Blackhawks; and a week’s stay at a private home in Napa Valley. Each year a crowd-favorite auction item is the opportunity to golf with key personnel from Lend Lease and Related Midwest, including Bailey and Biernacki from Related Midwest and Arfsten and Bert Brandt, vice president, project management and construction, from Lend Lease.
