McShane Construction Company - Park Place croppedBrinshore Development, based in north suburban Chicago, has completed work on Park Place, an affordable housing development on the South Side of Chicago. The multi-building project is on a 4.6-acre site at 50th St. and Lawndale Ave., within the West Elsdon, Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Park Place offers a total of 78 rental apartments with 15 one-, 42 two- and 21 three-bedroom units in 14 three-story buildings, plus a community building. Each residence provides in-unit dishwashers, washers and dryers, ceramic tile in baths and ceiling fans.

The community building contains a management office, computer room, and a dance floor, also used as an exercise space. Designed as a sustainable community, the property’s green features include a community garden, high insulation values in windows, walls and roofing, permeable pavement and downspouts that will be directed into green areas. The property is also less than one mile away from both the Pulaski and Kedzie CTA Orange Line stations.

McShane Construction Co. was the contractor on the project. As part of the assignment, McShane transformed an existing building on the site into the community building. All site work for the project, including paved roads, alleys, sidewalks and landscaping, was also done by McShane.

Funding for Park Place was provided by multiple sources, including the City of Chicago. Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council, one of the country’s oldest community organizations, is providing social and programming services for residents. Landon Bone Baker Architect served as the project architect for Park Place.
