Oakland, Calif.—Hines announced that the company broke ground on MacArthur Commons, a new multifamily development located in Oakland, Calif. The development project marks the company’s first for-rent residential project in the Oakland area. General Contractor Build Group anticipates occupancy of the first units in October 2018 and final completion by March 2019.

Located at 3888 Turquoise Way, the 2.18-acre project will consist of three separate residential buildings, adding up to 468,570 square feet. The 385-unit apartment community will comprise seven loft units, 59 studios, 241 one-bedroom and 78 two-bedroom units. The property, designed by Ankrom Moisan Architects, will feature a fitness center, clubroom, outdoor pool with spa, bike repair station and pedestrian plaza between the buildings. In addition, the development will also incorporate roughly 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. MacArthur Commons is adjacent to MacArthur BART station, which is the largest BART stop in the Bay Area, offering access to regional hubs like San Francisco, Berkeley and Emeryville.
