Ability Housing has broken ground on Village at Hyde Park, an 80-unit affordable housing development in Jacksonville, Fla. Florida Housing Finance Corp., JPMorgan Chase, Enterprise Community Investment and the Corporation for Supportive Housing financed the $18.7 million project. Forum Architecture & Interior Design is the architect, with Sauer Inc. serving as general contractor.
Located at 6480 Watergate Lane in the city’s Westside submarket, the property will be less than 6 miles from the junction between interstates 10 and 295. Village at Hyde Park is slated to include 43 one-, 23 two- and 14 three-bedroom apartments, all within a three-story building. Eight units will be designed for residents with hearing and/or vision impairments and 20 others will be available to individuals with mobility impairments. The community will feature roughly 3,800 square feet of common areas such as:
- office space for property managers
- library
- conference room
- storage space
- break room
- laundry facilities
- indoor bike storage
- playground
Village at Hyde Park is slated to meet Florida Green Building Coalition standards. Ability Housing purchased the 5-acre property for $450,000 in December 2017. Construction will begin this month and is expected to take a year. Currently, the nonprofit has two other affordable housing projects underway in Northeast and Central Florida—the 166-unit Village on Mercy in Orlando and the 77-unit Wayne Densch Center in Eatonville.
