Plans Revealed for First Phase of Residential Village at Sanctuary Belize

Stann Creek District, Belize– EcoFuture, which is partnering with Sittee River Wildlife Reserve on the development of the Sanctuary Belize master-planned community in Belize’s Stann Creek District, has revealed the $25 million Phase I Master Plan for the Marina Village, the focal point of the sprawling eco-friendly destination.

Sanctuary Belize, widely considered a trailblazer in eco-friendly development, sits between the 11,000-acre Sittee River Wildlife Reserve and the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, which holds the distinction of being the only jaguar preserve in the world. Sanctuary Belize’s Marina Village will be a mixed-use, pedestrian-friendly enclave that will be created in three stages. The initial phase will encompass 48 residential bungalows, 17 two-story hillside villas, 23 two-story marina villas and 18 residential lots, as well as 5,000 square feet of retail space that will house a restaurant bar and grill, a gourmet grocery store, a boating supply store and a dive/fishing shop.

According to those behind the Sanctuary Belize endeavor, demand for residential accommodations in Belize is on the rise, with no end in sight. “Baby Boomers are now seeking a safe haven of a secure, stable foreign market in which to shelter themselves and their assets in the wake of economic destruction in the U.S.,” Luke Chadwick, a principal with the Sanctuary Belize development team, tells MHN. “Belize offers all that and more. Belize is considered the next big thing with its ease of acclimation being an English and British common-law country.”

The next two phases of the Marina Village will yield a hotel, a medical center and additional retail, and a small casino is up for consideration as well.
