Pennrose Awarded ‘2014 Healthiest Employer’ Award for its Progressive, Employee Wellness Program

For the third year, Pennrose has been honored with a “Healthiest Employer” Award by the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Philadelphia–For the third year, Pennrose has been honored with a “Healthiest Employer” Award by the Philadelphia Business Journal. The award is given to companies in the Greater Philadelphia area that offer exemplary wellness services and programs for their employees. Earlier this year, Pennrose rolled out an enhanced wellness program to give employees the tools and support they need to better manage their health and then reward them for doing so.

Employees earn incentives for completing a health risk assessment, a biometric screening for body mass index, cholesterol, blood pressure, glucose and triglycerides, and then taking targeted actions related to results from the five screenings. The successful completion of all three translates into cash placed into the individual’s Health Reimbursement Account.

Pennrose first began a wellness program in 2011, after the company received news of a substantial insurance rate hike as a consequence of its prior years’ medical claims. As a result of its wellness efforts, medical claims have come down dramatically. For 2014, when many companies have been seeing double-digit increases in their health plan premiums, Pennrose had a less than one percent increase.

In addition to the Philadelphia Business Journal’s “Healthiest Employer” award, the American Heart Association has designated Pennrose as a “Fit-Friendly Company.”

The “2014 Healthiest Employer” Award is sponsored by the Philadelphia Business Journal and UnitedHealthcare to identify local companies with winning wellness strategies. This is the fourth year for the annual program. Winners, awarded by company size, will be recognized at a breakfast presentation on June 5.
