Oppidan JV Debuts Minneapolis Senior Community
The developer broke ground on the $85 million project in 2018.
Oppidan Investment Co. and Ebenezer Management Services have opened The Pillars of Prospect Park, a 340,000-square-foot, 283-unit senior community in Minneapolis providing independent living, assisted living and memory care services. The developer broke ground on the $85 million project in July 2018, working with Weis Builders as general contractor and Tushie Montgomery as architect.
Situated on 1.7 acres at 22 Malcolm Ave. SE, less than a mile from the University of Minnesota, the 10-story building features 1,900 square feet of retail and 6,230 square feet designated for a childcare center serving 105 children. The unit mix encompasses studio, one- and two-bedroom floorplans ranging from 428 to 1,262 square feet. Common-area amenities include a club room, fitness center with golf simulator, roof deck, bistro, salon/spa and underground parking.
The property is some 4 miles southeast of downtown Minneapolis in the Prospect Park neighborhood, across from Tower Hill Park. The location has easy access to light rail and metro transit.
Intergenerational programs and activities
Considering the proximity to the University of Minnesota and the modern senior living approach related to intergenerational activities, The Pillars of Prospect Park offers specific programs, involving both students and children of small ages.
The partnerships with University of Minnesota will allow for all residents to receive a Life Membership with the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, discounts to the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute courses and transportation to these courses. Additionally, Gopher Athletics will grant residents access to various sporting events such as women’s basketball, visits from Goldy and volunteering opportunities at games.
The “grandfriends” program, involving smaller children who attend the on-site childcare facility, will allow the senior residents to interact and create bonds through playtime, crafts, reading books and rocking babies.
