Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett joined EYA officials on May 12 at the corner of Shady Grove Road and Crabbs Branch Way in Rockville to celebrate the groundbreaking of the newest neighborhood in Montgomery County. Called Westside at Shady Grove Metro, it is an integral part of the country’s Smart Growth Initiative.

EYA is developing Westside on a 45-acre parcel. The project is part of the larger Shady Grove Metro, a redevelopment of more than 90 acres of industrial and warehouse space. It calls for the construction of a transit-oriented community with 407 townhomes, more than 1,000 rental homes, 131,000 square feet of office space and 41,828 square feet of retail space. Residents will also have access to numerous amenities, including a swimming pool, clubhouse, fitness center, dog park and more.

According to the developer, the homes will be LEED certified. In addition to market-rate homes, the neighborhood will include moderately priced dwelling units and workforce housing residences.

Westside is EYA’s 10th neighborhood in Montgomery County. At the start of May, the developer opened a sales center on the site for pre-construction sales. The first residents are expected to move in in late 2015 or early 2016.
