New Community Breaks Ground in Kansas City

Copaken Brooks, CP Real Estate Capital and Burns & McDonnell have broken ground on Reverb, an apartment building project located in the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City, Mo. The total investment is expected to be approximately $40 million and completion is scheduled for the summer of 2020.

Located at 18th and Walnut Streets, the project is in downtown Kansas City’s fast-growing neighborhood for arts, entertainment and entrepreneurship. The property is a short distance from major transportation routes, including interstates 35, 70 and 29.  

The 14-story community will contain 132 units, of which 10 percent will meet the city’s affordability standards. Reverb will also include a two-story, above ground parking garage, and an additional 2,000 square feet of retail and other commercial space will be located on the ground level, including space for food trucks outside and a sidewalk park.

A team led by Trevor Hoiland of Burns & McDonnell designed the building and Eric Wyancko of Copaken Brooks is the project manager.

“The building’s design is about an action and a reaction—a reverberation of form and a shift in apartment living. (…) The design connects with the street life in the area and complements the arts district,” said Hoiland, in prepared remarks.

Recently, Worcester Investments purchased 909 Walnut, a 152-unit luxury residential tower with office and retail components, located approximately 1 mile north of the Reverb building site.
