By Erika Schnitzer, Associate EditorSan Diego—The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has announced the winners of the 2009 Multifamily Pillars of the Industry Awards in 28 categories. The winners represent the best in multifamily development, design and execution, marketing and individual achievement.Bozzuto Management Company was named Property Management Company of the year for the second time—the first was in 2000. The Greenbelt, Md.-based company manages 27,500 units in 97 properties throughout the East Coast.Julie Smith, president, Bozzuto Management Company, says, “I credit the team we have built at Bozzuto to receiving this award, because everything we have done is a result of incredibly motivated, talented and energetic people, and they are the ones who have made it all happen.” She also notes the freedom, support and encouragement from principals at the company to push forward on new initiatives.The NRP Group LLC, a Cleveland-based developer, contractor and property manager of affordable and market-rate housing, was named Multifamily Development Firm of the Year. The company has developed over 40,000 multifamily units.“We stuck to our core of providing safe and affordable housing,” J. David Heller, principal at NRP, tells MHN. “In this economic environment, where there are so many people in need of this type of housing, it bodes well for us. Part of our ability to execute is because we have stuck to our core values and that has helped us stay on course.” He adds that the company’s core values include hard work, teamwork and professionalism.Property Manager of the Year was awarded to Kristen Noble at McLean, Va.-based Kettler. Noble oversaw a condominium reversion project, managing $3 million in FHA Cap Ex renovations, while meeting the project’s leasing schedule. She also created and manages a bi-level internship program, steering students toward management functions.”I try to lead by example, showing each team member that they play a critical role in real estate management.
