Meta Housing Unveils CA Affordable Community
Zinnia in Signal Hill offers 72 units and a mini dog park, a playground and a community building.
Meta Housing Corp. has debuted Zinnia, an affordable housing community in Signal Hill, Calif. The 72-unit property was designed by Studio One Eleven, who also designed Meta’s ACE/121 affordable apartments in Glendale, Calif.
According to Kasey Burke, president of Meta Housing Corp., Zinnia’s design was focused on walkability, community engagement and sustainability. Zinnia was designed to meet LEED Gold for Homes certification.
“As with all Meta communities, we focused on thoughtful integration of elements that encourage engagement with community residents as well as the surrounding neighborhood,” said Burke.
Located at 1500 E. Hill St., the community offers a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans on a 1.6-acre parcel. Resident amenities include an outdoor patio, community building, playground, community garden, mini dog park, 82 parking spaces and 42 bike spaces. Social services including educational classes on employment preparation, life skills, wellness, financial literacy, health and fitness programs will all be offered at Zinnia. There will also be an after school program for youth that will offer tutoring.
Financing was provided by the city of Signal Hill Tax Credit Allocation Committee and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
