Meet Broadstone Candara the MHN Excellence Silver in ‘Low-Rise’

Los Angeles—A Silver winner in the MHN 2015 Excellence Awards Garden/Low-Rise Category, Broadstone Candara at Hancock Park is a new multifamily apartment community in one of the most accessible locations in Los Angeles between Larchmont Village and The Wilshire Country Club. With views of the Hollywood Hills and downtown Los Angeles, developer Alliance Residential Co. and DFH Architects have created a community offering 103 brand-new bungalows equipped with patios, washers and dryers, walk-in closets, wood plank-style flooring in the kitchens and living rooms, state-of-the-art stainless-steel appliances, and wiring for smart-home technology.

Given the competitive Los Angeles multifamily market, Broadstone Candara needed to create a differentiated experience for prospective residents (who range from entertainment executives to established, single adults) and the project raises the bar through a variety of amenities and areas to work, live and play. This includes cozy spots to gather outdoors, from large courtyards to a roof deck with oversized wooden tables and 360 degree views of the Hollywood Hills, a zero-edge pool, string lights, a fire pit, plush daybeds and hanging seats. Interior design team H. Hendy Associates also integrated full outdoor bars and grill stations into the property’s design, enabling residents to entertain and engage al fresco.

From a design standpoint, the focus was on cultivating a dramatic aesthetic that would stand apart, meet the rising demands of its target residents, encourage community engagement and attract a higher-end client. Building exteriors are influenced by the majestic warmth of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, while interiors take their cue from boutique-hotel style, with whimsical appeal (velvet draping, chandeliers, arched doorways and signature lighting). Pairing with the rich aesthetic design, space functionality was another major consideration—each common room accommodates multiple functions, creating flexibility for residents, and thoughtful elements that fit the Millennial-minded resident base are weaved throughout the shared spaces, encouraging frequent use and engagement.
