Hollywood Proper Residences in Los Angeles has become the first residential community project to earn WELL Multifamily Residential Certification under the WELL Building Standard. Administered by the International WELL Building Institute, the standard is a system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring built-environment features that promote the health and wellness of the people in those spaces.

GBD Architects designed the tower, which was constructed by Webcor Builders. The 200-unit high-rise, operated by Proper Hospitality, opened in June as part of Kilroy Realty’s Columbia Square development, which is the site of the historic CBS broadcast facility that’s currently home to major media players like Viacom.

WELL Qualities

Some design elements at Hollywood Proper Residences that helped it win its WELL designation include performance-verified indoor air quality achieved through increased outdoor air and a suite of filtration media; health-focused building materials; sizable daylight access; and performance-verified water quality.

In addition to health-focused design, Hollywood Proper Residences provides its residents with ongoing weekly fitness programming, which includes yoga twice a week, Wednesday boxing boot camp, and Saturday morning wellness experiences. Saturday sessions occur on the rooftop and include an hour of Qi Gong, aromatherapy, and seasonal smoothies from Filifera.

“We operate lifestyle hospitality experiences, which include a focus on not only design and amenities, but also health and wellness,” said Arash Azarbarzin, president & COO of Proper Hospitality.
