Los Angeles—The Los Angeles Business Journal has honored Bernards and Caruso Affiliated with its 2013 Commercial Real Estate Gold Award in the Mixed-Use category. The award recognizes the two companies’ roles as builder and developer respectively of 8500 Burton Way, the luxury apartment community with what the Wall Street Journal terms “the priciest rents the city has ever seen.” The recognition was bestowed upon Bernards and Rick Caruso at a gala awards presentation that took place at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

An ultramodern design, pedestrian-friendly screetscape and garden terraces are a few of the signature characteristics of 8500 Burton Way.

The $65 million development offers 87 luxury apartment homes above a full-service Trader Joe’s Market and four parking levels. Rents extend from $4,500 monthly for a one-bedroom apartment to $40,000 a month for a 4,000-square-foot furnished penthouse. That penthouse residence was designed by internationally renowned “designer to the stars” Waldo Fernandez.

The location at the intersection of Burton Way and La Cienega Blvd. is part of the cache. Sited in a dynamic urban setting that is mere steps from dining, shopping and amenities, the development is around the corner from Cedars Sinai Medical Center and just a few blocks away from the heart of legendary Beverly Hills.

The striking eight-story building, designed by McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners, features a stone and smooth-plaster façade, and architectural details including a rooftop oculus that appears to float over the structure. Additionally, there is a rooftop deck, spa and 600-square-foot saltwater pool with transparent bottom that gives swimmers the sense of floating in air above the terrace below.

Inside the expansive one- to three-bedroom apartment homes, floor-to-ceiling glass and private balconies provide views of the Hollywood Hills, Pacific Ocean and the lights of downtown.

Exceptionally high-end finishes characterize the residences, and include hardwood floors, hardwood cabinetry, separate media rooms, gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops and ceramic and stone tiling.

Services and amenities include 24-hour attendant and security call center, five-star concierge service, valet, dog-walking services, exclusive residents-only events and a penthouse clubroom and state-of-the-art fitness center with personal trainers. Residents of 8500 Burton Way are given a VIP valet pass to Caruso’s retail destinations, among them The Grove and Americana at Brand. They can also take advantage of light meal preparation and delivery by the acclaimed Lauder food-to-go service, as well as Trader Joe’s pantry service.
