JV to Bring Solar-Plus-Storage to LMI Communities in NY
The partnership aims to equip more than 2,500 regulated affordable housing buildings across New York City with solar and storage installations.

Solar developer OYA Solar of Canada and Crauderueff & Associates, a New York affordable solar developer, have partnered to originate and develop 200 solar-plus-storage community projects on the rooftops of low-income communities across New York City. The process can help community solar subscribers save up to 10 percent on the cost of electric power.
The joint venture’s target is to equip more than 2,500 regulated affordable housing buildings with rooftop solar arrays, which will reduce energy costs for low- and moderate-income homes. Solar energy produced at the partnership’s community solar facilities will be sold at a discount to LMI households.

“Solar can help preserve New York City’s affordable housing stock and reduce electric costs for our city’s low-income residents. Now is the time to turn this potential to action—we can’t afford to wait,” added Rob Crauderueff, CEO of Crauderueff & Associates.
Researchers from the City University of New York have discovered that two-thirds of all New York City rooftops are suitable for solar. If harnessed, it could generate nearly 6,000 megawatts, which is enough energy to meet approximately half of New York’s peak electricity demand. Community solar-plus-storage farms could be the solution that helps maximize that solar opportunity.
