A partnership of KWK Architects and ADG Architects—both of Oklahoma City—has completed construction of the $75 million residential colleges Headington and Dunham at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla. This 600-bed project marks the first of its kind in Oklahoma.
LEED Silver structure
Designed by KWK Architects and ADG Architects, with Brailsford & Dunlavey handling program management, Headington and Dunham are conceived as living/learning spaces featuring amenities such as:
- faculty master apartment and office
- private parking
- seminar
- conference rooms
- lounges
- study areas
- libraries
- dining rooms
- fitness center
Construction of Headington College and Dunham College began in 2015, with the official opening in August 2017. Headington is a LEED Silver-certified structure, with more than 110,000 square feet. The community offers one-, two- and three-bed units.
“The residential colleges combine three different aspects of student life: the living space, the learning space and the fellowship relationship,” Paul Wuennenberg, KWK Architects’ principal said in a statement. “The goal of this model is to engage students within the residential colleges beyond their freshman and sophomore years, creating relationships and a lasting sense of identity.”
The University of Oklahoma has seen a whirlwind of activity in recent months. Announced in August, OU Cross Village—a 413-unit mixed-use student housing community—is scheduled to open its doors in fall 2018.
