IREM® and its International Chapter Network to Spotlight Organization’s Deep Ethical Roots During Upcoming, Month-Long Observance

Chicago—The Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM®) and its 93 chapters across the U.S. and abroad will mark, throughout the month of September, the annual observance of “IREM® Ethics Awareness Month.” The observance will spotlight IREM’s historical commitment to professional ethics, a cornerstone of the organization since its founding in 1933.
“IREM’s Code of Professional Ethics protects the public, reflects contemporary business practices, and sends a powerful message to the marketplace that IREM ®Members don’t just talk the talk when it comes to ethics, but they also walk the walk,” said IREM® 2014 President Joseph Greenblatt, CPM®. “Indeed,” said Greenblatt, “all IREM® Members must pledge to adhere to the rigorously enforced IREM® Code of Professional Ethics as a condition of membership, with violations subject to serious disciplinary action, including expulsion.” Initiatives planned for “Ethics Awareness Month” include member-produced videos, an ethics-focused social media campaign and webinar, and numerous other activities at the national and local levels drawn, in part, from specially prepared materials developed by members of IREM’s Ethics Committee. As well, several chapters will host an all-day IREM® ethics course titled “Ethics for the Real Estate Manager” (ETH800). The course addresses strategies and case studies focused on avoiding and resolving ethical dilemmas. It culminates in an exam to earn credit toward any one of three IREM® credentials: CERTIFIED PROPERTY MANAGER® (CPM®), ACCREDITED RESIDENTIAL MANAGER® (ARM®), and ACCREDITED COMMERCIAL MANAGER (ACoM).
