InterContinental Turns Lyon Hospital into Luxury Hotel
InterContinental Hotel Group continues to strengthen its position on the local and international market through the recently announced signing of InterContinental Lyon Hotel Dieu in Lyon, France.

Lyon, France—InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) continues to strengthen its position on the local and international market through the recently announced signing of InterContinental Lyon Hotel Dieu in Lyon, France.
The future hotel will open during the autumn of 2018 and will become the company’s fifth InterContinental® hotel in France, joining InterContinental® Paris – Le Grand, InterContinental® Paris – Avenue Marceau, InterContinental® Marseille Hotel Dieu, and InterContinental® Carlton Cannes. Crédit Agricole Assurances will manage it and Eiffage will develop it.
Located on the west bank of the Rhone river close to Place Bellecour, the property will be converted from Lyon’s former Hôtel Dieu, a hospital of historical significance and famous for its architectural beauty that closed in 2010. The building dates back to the 12th century and during the 17th and 18th centuries the original building was replaced with the grandiose wings and courts it has today. According to Le Point, the renovation of the Grand Hotel-Dieu is “the most important ever realized in France.”
The hotel will feature 143 rooms including 24 junior suites, one presidential suite, and 118 deluxe and superior rooms. Guests will have access to a Club InterContinental lounge, multiple restaurants with access to a terrace from the main restaurant, a lounge bar, two meeting rooms, and a 100m2 fitness center. A connected 2,500m2 conference center will include nine meeting rooms and a 500m2 ballroom.
IHG operates 179 InterContinental hotels and resorts globally, with 51 due to open in the next three to five years. In France, IHG operates 55 hotels, with seven in the pipeline.
