Humphreys & Partners Launches Landscape Architecture Firm

By Anuradha Kher, Online News EditorDallas–Humphreys & Partners Architects launched a landscape architecture firm (HPLA) on the occasion of Earth Day, which was celebrated earlier this week.Humphreys LEED APs (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professionals) specialize in planning and design of sustainable outdoor spaces that are functional, cost-effective, visually pleasing and environmentally friendly. “The landscape design of a multifamily project is vital to its success, and research indicates that the quality of the landscaping represents a key factor in attracting and retaining clients,” Dan Erlandson, who runs the landscape architecture department at Humphreys & Partners, tells MHN. “If a project is surrounded with quality landscaping, has an attractive pool and amenity areas and feels safe, renters are more likely to lease from that community. The property has to have curb appeal and look good throughout.” HPLA has five employees who will work with the Humphreys Architecture division to provide a connection between the architecture, civil engineering and landscape architecture. According to Erlandson, apartment developers are better off spending money on lush landscaping and amenities than upgraded cabinets, counters and trim work. “A beautiful landscape will help rent apartments and improve the quality of life of its users. A property can be transformed through the redesign of the hardscape as well. New entry upgrades that include new paving, lighting, water features and signage all help in giving new life to a property.” Erlandson says that many clients are now requesting new amenity areas to be designed. Renters expect quality amenities, and the firm has been busy designing new swimming pools, spas, water features, ramadas, barbecue areas, putting greens and other recreational features.
