Ground Broken on StreetLights Rental Project in Houston
The Carter, a new 20-story high-rise development from Dallas-based StreetLights Residential, has broken ground in the Museum District of Houston.

Houston—c, a new 20-story high-rise development from Dallas-based StreetLights Residential, has broken ground in the Museum District of Houston. The site of the future 305-unit apartment building is off Chelsea Blvd. between Montrose and Travis Streets, just minutes from Midtown and Downtown Houston, the Medical Center, Rice University and Herman Park.
“Houston is one of the top cities in the country for job creation and economic stability, and with thousands of people moving to the area, there is a demand for urban housing,” StreetLights Residential CEO Doug Chesnut tells MHN. “The Montrose area specifically has a rapidly growing population and a high density of the demographic we believe will be future residents of The Carter. The location is within close proximity to several of Houston’s main attractions, and we believe the amenities and design of the building will complement the rich culture of the neighborhood.”
The Carter’s first units will be available for resident move-ins in early 2016, and project completion is scheduled for later that year.
The Carter will sit on a two-acre site and offer one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. The luxury amenity package will include a resort-style pool with multiple lounge areas and fire pits, 19th floor lounge with kitchen, entertainment and dining areas, private game room, fitness center, resident lobby bar and lounge, outdoor covered dog park, Wi-Fi throughout common areas, private garages and garage parking with electric car charging stations.
Individual units will feature 10-foot ceilings, Salto keyless-entry systems, “sound system ready” units with built in speakers, stone countertops, stainless steel appliances and gourmet prep islands.
The enclave that the Carter will call home is Montrose, a diverse and active neighborhood in the Houston Museum District with a variety of activities focused on the arts, Chesnut reports.
“The Carter will give renters the chance to enjoy a luxury, hotel-like environment with high-end amenities in the heart of a big city,” he adds. “We believe the attention to detail in the design and the amenities of the building will draw residents who are interested in the arts, or are simply looking for a lifestyle with a community feel in an urban setting.”
Gromatzky, Dupree & Associates (GDA) is the architect on the project. The interiors of The Carter are also being designed by GDA, and the landscape design is being undertaken by Lynda Tycher & Associates. The general contractor on the project will be SLR Texas Construction.
