Tallahassee, Fla.–Construction has gotten underway on Campus Circle Tallahassee, a luxury off-campus student housing community adjacent to Florida State University’s main campus. The Bainbridge Companies is the developer behind the project, which will make 219 coveted, modern units available to student renters.
Campus Circle’s target audience is practically right outside the soon-to-be erected property’s front door, and they’re an eager bunch. “There’s quite a bit of demand for off-campus housing since on-campus housing fills up quickly,” Ben Young, a representative of the Florida State University Student Government Association’s Florida State University Off-Campus Housing Service, tells MHN.
Designed by the architectural firm of Charlan Brock & Associates, Campus Circle will occupy 11 acres and will be more like a market-rate apartment complex than a student residence. The four-story community, with accommodations for 679 beds, will offer a resort-style environment featuring such amenities as a swimming pool with cabanas. A nearly 13,000 square-foot clubhouse will serve as the centerpiece, encompassing a game room complete with large flat-screen televisions and Wii and Xbox gaming systems, as well as a cyber café for both Mac and PC users and a bistro with a kitchen.
Campus Circle will also feature a two-story, state-of-the-art fitness center. And the very reason for the students’ presence does not go unacknowledged; the property will offer group and individual study rooms. Additionally, energy efficiency is a central focus for the project, which will meet requirements for Energy Star rating and the National Association of Home Builders’ National Green Building Program certification.
According to those in the know, Campus Circle will be everything FSU’s students want in off-campus housing and will not have trouble filling the fully furnished apartments, which will be leased by individual bedroom and bath. “Most first-time incoming students prefer the dorm experience, and once they’ve had that, they’re ready to get into a luxury off-campus apartment and get away from the freshmen,” Young says. There is a mix of both traditional and upscale off-campus housing options, but the latter is, not surprisingly, the preferred choice. “Most students want a modern type of setting,” he adds. Come January 2012, they’ll have just that as Campus Circle’s first units become available. All residences will have reached completion in time for students to find a home for the fall 2012-2013 school year.
