The Elaine, a 304-unit luxury apartment community in the northern Chicago suburb of Northbrook, Ill., is complete. General contractor McShane Construction Co. was selected by Finger Cos. to provide general construction services on the project. Two months ago, McShane Construction completed work on a Georgia affordable community.

Located at 1000 Skokie Blvd., the development features wood frame construction wrapped around a precast concrete parking deck whose six floors provide sufficient parking spaces for 642 vehicles. The Elaine offers one- and two-bedroom apartments ranging in size from 698 to 1,229 square feet, each incorporating stainless steel appliances, quartz and granite countertops, full-size washer-dryers, wine refrigerators and solar roller shades.

The list of amenities is topped by an interactive golf simulator that enables golfers to play legendary golf courses from across the globe.

Niles Bolton Associates is The Elaine’s architect of record.

Cohesive team

There really were no challenges,” McShane Construction Co. Project Manager James Koback told Multi-Housing News. “The job went smoothly with a cohesive team effort of all involved, from the developer, architects, engineers, village, McShane and our subcontractors. This was a very enjoyable project.”

The property is within 10 miles of both Northwestern University in Evanston and Oakton Community College in Des Plaines. It is within 2.5 miles of the Glencoe commuter rail station on Metra’s Union Pacific/North Line, with regular service to stops from Kenosha, Wisc., to the west side of Chicago’s Loop.

Three shopping centers are situated within approximately 2 miles. Parks and recreation areas in the region include the Skokie Lagoon, Chicago Botanic Garden, Somme Prairie Nature Preserve and Rosewood Beach, all within 5 miles of the property.
