By Erika Schnitzer, Associate EditorSan Diego–Classic Residence by Hyatt, a developer, owner and operator of senior living communities, recently celebrated the completion of its $147 million expansion of Hyatt at La Jolla Village, a Type A continuing care retirement community (CCRC). The new North Tower, which offers an additional 184 units and a new community space, is connected to the existing South Tower by an on-campus care center.La Jolla Village offers 403 independent living residences, 36 assisted apartments, 23 memory support suites and 60 skilled nursing suites, which are Medicaid-certified. Residents will have access to on-site care, including assisted living, skilled nursing and memory support/Alzheimer’s care. “We are proud to deliver an outstanding value to our residents and encourage older adults in the area to visit us and learn about the economic and social benefits of living at a continuing care retirement community,” says Susan Compton, executive director, Classic Residence by Hyatt in La Jolla Village. Such benefits include providing greater peace of mind for residents and their families, providing protection against rising healthcare costs, and having predictable monthly fees. In addition, having a predictable return of an entry fee in a CCRC can help with estate planning.Classic Residence by Hyatt at La Jolla Village blends the concept of a world-class hotel, recreational living and fine dining with the availability of care. The site provides residents panoramic views of Torrey Pines bluffs from both the North and South Towers and is in close proximity to two medical centers, shopping centers and entertainment. The development offers one-, two- and three-bedroom units, ranging in size from 700 to 2,919 sq. ft. Residences in the North Tower start at 1,200 sq. ft. and all units include balconies. Entrance fees for residences range from $283,600 to $755,000, in addition to monthly fees. The community’s continuing care program provides residents with access to the care center with minimal increase in their monthly fees. The development offers a fully equipped fitness center, heated indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi, unisex beauty salon and full-service spa, wellness center, library, computer center, art studio, ballroom and multi-purpose rooms. In addition, resident services include concierge, valet, housekeeping and maintenance. Two restaurants have been added to the North Tower. Cafe Biscotti is a casual cafe serving breakfast, lunch and mid-day coffee and light fare, and Arrosti, a casual bistro adjacent to America’s Cup, a bar and lounge, opened this year. In addition, the site includes a club-style restaurant on the 21st floor of the South Tower, which has been transformed to Twenty One, a formal dining room. Los Angeles-based Nadel is the architect for the expansion of Classic Residence by Hyatt at La Jolla Village.
