Don’t Ditch Good Design when Furnishing for Seniors

StudioSIX5 unveils a new line of furniture tailored for the seniors housing space.

Image 3Seniors housing of the independent and assisted variety has made great strides in recent years in terms of the design quality offered to residents. While furniture needs to be easy to get in and out of, it should also look like something you would find in a catalogue. This certainly presents a unique set of challenges, but studioSIX5 is up to the task.

Image 1The senior living design company has been doing interior work at communities since 2003, but recently got into the furniture game after founder Dean Maddalena was frustrated with the furnishings available after designing an eye-catching interior. His first task was a line of line of flooring with Mannington Commercial known as the Il Palio collection. The carpeting has a number of features tailored to the space, including bleach resistance, moisture barriers, solution-dying for durability, and a low pile height for wheelchair and walker accessibility.

Image 2Maddalena has moved on to the furniture arena with the studioSIX5 Collection, which is built by Kwalu, a furniture provider to the senior living space. The collection started with a line of indoor furniture for common areas, but has expanded to include an outdoor line of patio furniture. There are also plans to add a three-seat sofa, storage chest and additional tables options. All furniture is designed with ergonomics in mind. This includes appealing seat height, depth and width, comfortable cushions, durability and proper fluid drainage.
