Detroit Adds 54 Units for Low-Income Seniors
The development is part of Bedrock’s agreement with the City of Detroit to build and preserve 700 affordable housing units over the next several years.

The City of Detroit and Bedrock have completed work on The Flats at 124 Alfred, a 54-unit affordable housing project in Detroit, dedicated to residents aged 55 and over. The property is part of the company’s 8.4-acre City Modern development, a mixed-use project in the city’s historic Brush Park district.
Located at 124 Alfred St., just minutes from downtown, the property consists of one-bedroom units that range between 600 and 735 square feet. Community-area amenities include a fitness center, lounge, outdoor terrace and gated underground parking. All units are restricted to residents who earn 30 to 60 percent of the area’s median income. Hamilton Anderson Associates designed the project.
Following an agreement with the City of Detroit in 2017, Bedrock intends to develop or rehabilitate roughly 3,500 units over the next several years, setting aside 700 of them to low-income residents. When complete, City Modern is set to include a connective string of pedestrian parks, alleys designed as sustainable infrastructure, green roofs and shared transportation systems. The City Modern masterplan project encompasses four historic structures and 20 new buildings.
