Dallas Senior Housing Property Edgemere Begins Expansion
The renovation includes making two dining space have the feel of "authentic Italian restaurants."

Dallas—Ground has been broken for the renovation and expansion of Edgemere, a senior housing property in Dallas. The expansion will add amenities to the facility, as well as new assisted living and other units.
Altogether, the additions will total 75,000 square feet. Plans call for eight new assisted living apartment units, 12 new memory support suites and 15 new skilled nursing suites. Currently the Senior Quality Lifestyles Corp. property has 30 independent living apartments, 60 assisted living units, 31 memory care suites and 72 skilled nursing suites.
The Plaza at Edgemere, which includes part of the property’s common area, will be expensively updated, according to Senior Quality. The first phase of the renovation will see the addition of a 6,000 square-foot performing arts center in the center courtyard of the Plaza. It will sport a bar and lounge, exposed wooden beams and stage for performers.
The renovation will also involve two dining venues at the property. When completed, they will “have the look and feel of authentic Italian restaurants,” according to the owner.
“Baby Boomers want a vibrant environment, different from their parents’ generation,” noted Edgemere managing director John Falldine. The demographic will drive growth for senior housing for some decades ahead: Texas is now home to 5.2 million Baby Boomers, who will all be at least 65 by 2030. By that year, the demographic (between 66 and 84) will make up 20 percent of the population.
