A High-Tech Initiative to Streamline Construction

KB Home, a U.S.-based home building company, has initiated The KB Home ProjeKt, a forward-looking concept home meant to innovate home building through innovative partnerships. The processes help reduce building cycle time by using off-site construction framing which incorporates 3D-modeled and advanced panelized framing.

The collaborative effort includes MiTek, a diversified global supplier of software, engineered products, services and equipment across various sectors, and Entekra, a California-based design, engineering, and manufacturing company that provides a fully integrated off-site solution for both residential and commercial construction. The shorter framing cycle times are realized through collaboration enabled in part by MiTek’s Sapphire 3D BIM structural models, Entekra’s engineered integration and manufacturing that uses MiTek automated equipment.

Entekra coordinates the off-site integration process, and also facilitates the panelized design, truss engineering, and construction logistics of the floor, roof, and wall panel components. Truss and panel design and manufacturing are enabled by MiTek’s Sapphire design and process-management software solutions, which also drive MiTek’s automated equipment to create the final structural components.

Overall, KB Home ProjeKt demonstrates the viability of a highly accelerated construction pace achieved with a collaborative effort across all disciplines in place.
