Community Development Partners and Architecture Design Collaborative have broken ground on Bridging the Aqua, a 57-unit property in Santa Ana, Calif. The project will serve the chronically homeless, including those with mental and physical disabilities.

Located at 317 17th St., on an almost 1-acre lot that was the former site of the Aqua Motel, the community will be close to Interstate 5 and to Santa Ana’s urban core. The permanent housing development is set to include three buildings with studios and one-bedroom units. One of the structures will be dedicated to resident service spaces such as meeting rooms for social workers, office space for service providers and a community room. A series of open walkways are slated to connect the three- and four-story buildings.

Several other affordable housing projects for homeless residents are currently underway in the city. In January, Jamboree Housing Corp. began construction on Santa Ana Veterans Village, a 75-unit community set to provide permanent supportive housing to formerly homeless veterans earning no more than 30 percent of the area’s median income.
