Benchmark Senior Living, in partnership with Claremont Development and March Development LLC, has broken ground on Benchmark at Cedar Grove, a 138-unit senior housing community in Cedar Grove, N.J. Completion is expected in 2027.

IMC Construction serves as general contractor, while Lantz-Boggio Architects serves as main architect and Senior By Design as interior designer. Huntington National Bank provided mortgage financing.

Benchmark at Cedar Grove will feature senior independent living, personalized assisted living and memory care units for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The community will provide services such as skilled nursing care, medication management, private dining, housekeeping and scheduled transportation, among others.

Upon its completion, the four-story building will encompass several floorplans. Common-area amenities will include a fitness center, a wellness center, a pub, a bistro, two hair salons, exterior courtyards and dining venues.

The full-service retirement community will rise on 5.5 acres of the former Cedar Grove Garden Center, at 1201 Pompton Ave. The development is close to Interstate 85 and Route 46, which allow easy access to the New York City metropolitan area.

Senior housing occupancy has risen for 15 straight quarters, reaching its highest level in a decade. Meanwhile, construction continues to decline, with fewer units being built and under development—raising concerns about future supply keeping pace with growing demand.
